Preservation Orchard

A Living Museum

The holistically managed Preservation Orchard at Branch Hill Farm features rare and historically grown apples in the Moose Mountains and greater New England regions. Many of these have been cloned from old trees still surviving in backyards and fields.

About the Orchard

Lost, Found, and Grown Again.

In the spring of 2020, Branch Hill Farm initiated a project to plant a living museum of rare and unique heritage apple trees, bringing back a living piece of history, one apple at a time.

New England was once home to an extraordinary number of unique apple varieties, yet over time, most were lost or forgotten as high-yield commercial hybrids took hold.

Using both time-tested and modern sustainable agricultural practices, Branch Hill Farm is reviving this incredible wealth of botanical history, tree by tree.
